USB Executive Development (USB-ED), the public executive development company of Stellenbosch University, was ranked the top executive development company in the country by the consulting, research and risk management services company, Professional Management Review (PMR) Africa.

This is the fifth year that USB-ED received top honours in the national survey, conducted between November 2015 and January 2016. The survey consists of a random national sample of 120 respondents comprising of HR directors & managers, CEO’s and MD’s representing JSE listed and large companies.

The award, the Diamond Arrow Award, is for being the top provider of Academic Institutions offering executive education (short courses) in South Africa and was handed over at an award ceremony held in Johannesburg on 15 February 2016.

USB-ED also received a Diamond Arrow Award in the category of Foreign Business Schools offering Executive Education (short courses) in Namibia in February 2015 and similarly in Botswana in September 2015.

USB-ED received a mean score of 8 out of a possible 10 points in the latest national survey. Respondents were asked to give comments on the perceived strengths and weaknesses of the academic institutions, rated on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being poor and 10 outstanding.

The attribute/criteria for the rating of academic institutions offering executive short courses were:
  • Application of knowledge in the workplace
  • Cost
  • Development of the individual
  • International perspective of the individual
  • Leadership skills/abilities
  • Relevance of course
  • Reputation (i.e. perception of the institution's brand, integrity, CSI)
  • Scope/variety of courses being offered
  • Strategic benefits for the company
  • Tactical benefits for the company
  • Value of the course to the company

USB-ED CEO, Frik Landman, commented: “The Stellenbosch brand speaks of resilience and carries with it a brand promise of the highest quality. The fact that this is the fifth year that USB-ED received top honours in the PMR Africa national survey serves as client testimony to this fact. This resonates with Aristotle’s view that quality ‘is not an act, but a habit!’

“Underpinning this award is the high commitment of staff to bring their most sincere efforts to bear; the skilful execution of faculty and authentic leadership. Amongst many alternatives the Stellenbosch brand gives the market a wise and courageous option regarding the criteria mentioned,” Landman said.
